In this Issue: SMED: Single Minute Exchange of Dies

In this issue, I will talk about another lean tool, which will increase your OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), but also your flexibility

This tool is called SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Dies) ,or Quick Changeover.

First some definitions:

SMED stands for Single Minute Exchange of Die, and covers the techniques for obtaining a changeover time of less than 10 minutes ( a single digit number of minutes). The SMED method, and also Poka Yoke (previous article), were introduced by Dr. Shigeo Shingo, one of the world's leading experts in improving manufacturing processes.
